Short Rotation Hybrid Poplar Plantations for Energy Wood

A Short Term Scientific Mission report

In December of 2010 the Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) of two scientists from Latvia State Forest Research Institute “Silava” hosted by CNR Ivalsa (Italy) was accomplished. Purpose of the STSM was to inspect the methods and technologies used for cultivation of poplars in Italy and evaluate the possibilities for transfer of technologies to Latvia and to Baltic Sea Region in broader perspective. In the report a brief overview about the practice used for cultivation and harvesting of poplars plantations in Italy is provided.
